IICF UK conference leads the way on embracing diversity to drive leadership, innovation and community impact

28th March 2019

LONDON 25 March, 2019: The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation UK (IICF), held its third conference on ‘Lifting the LID on Insurance: Leadership, Innovation & Diversity’ at The Tower of London on 14 March, raising £45,000 for local charities that support social mobility.

Leon Walker, Development Manager, Lloyd’s.

Approximately 100 insurance industry representatives attended the conference, creating a unique opportunity for delegates to connect as well as to learn new ways to embrace diverse talent and be effective leaders in today’s changing workplace.

Nouh Abukar, an ambassador for Key4Life, a charity supported by IICF that reduces youth reoffending through an innovative rehabilitation programme, encouraged attendees to turn adversity into advantage and urged companies to see the potential of people with a criminal record when recruiting diverse talent. To echo the words of Leon Walker, Development Manager at Lloyds, “diversity of thought can be found anywhere, you just have to be creative”.

Shirine Khoury-Haq, COO, Lloyd’s.

Industry speakers included Bronek Masojada, CEO, Hiscox, who advocated taking incremental steps to innovate; Ivy Kusinga, Chief Culture Officer, Chubb who appealed to Industry CEOs to be part of the conversation; and Dan White, Senior Partner, Ninety Consulting, a social enterprise that has brought healthcare to 20,000 people by funding a clinic in Nairobi. Dan highlighted the unique social purpose of the re/insurance industry and urged companies to innovate in ways that create both business and social impact.

The conference was sponsored by AXA XL, Axco Insurance Information Services, Chubb, CNA Hardy, KPMG, MS Amlin and R10. Their generosity and leadership will allow IICF to advance the dialogue on these important topics.

“An incredible event. It was humbling and inspiring in equal measure to hear from and present alongside some truly exceptional leaders. The selfless work of the IICF deserves the support of every single person working in the insurance sector.

“I hope in future years to see even more people involved and opening their minds wide to the important challenges of our time, creating a strong legacy for future generations to inherit,” commented Edward Lewis, Partner, Weightmans LLP.

Proceeds from the conference will benefit charities advocating social mobility. In this way, delegates played a valuable role in promoting leadership both within the Industry and local community.
